During the Industrial Revolution, Walter Tips, the owner of the building at 710 Congress Ave, helped revolutionize Austin by incorportaing cotton gins and heavy machinery into his downtown location. Designed by the same architect as the Driskill Hotel, the interior columns are made of “recast”-exploded confederate shells.
