Master builder Abner Cook designed and built the executive residence of Texas in 1856. The mansion was constructed in Greek Revival style, using handmade bricks and oine timbers hauled from Bastrop. Since 1856, Texas Governors have resided here and entertained distinguished visitors including U.S. presidents and other heads of state. It is also the nation’s forth oldest mansion still used as a govorner’s residence.
