The original owner, Eugene Bremond, was a local banker from a prominent merchandising family. Until about 1855, this was the site of the executive offices of Republic of Texas Presidents Lamar, Houston and Anson Jones, as well as state Governors Henderson, Woodm Bell and Pease.
