Jacoby-Pope and Hannig Building

Address:
200 East 6th St., Austin, Texas 78701

The Jocoby-Pope Building and the neighboring Hannig Building were both constructed in the 1870’s, yet they represent two different trends occurring in Austin at the time. The Jacoby-Pope Building is a simple commercial storefront fairly typical of what was being built here and on Congress Ave. The Hannig Building next door, on the other hand, was an architectural extravaganza designed by a trained architect and built at a greater cost than most Austin business houses of the era.
